About 75% or even more of all webmasters on this planet do not know the value of links. In some cases they heard that links are good, and links help websites rank better, but they don’t have a single clue how to get them and actually have some benefit for their websites. That’s why I made this Blog to show you guys and gals how important directories are.

First, I’d like to tell you some background information about links and their importance. Links are considered to be equal to VOTES for your website’s quality and the more votes you have the better your website will perform and the higher traffic you will get. Actually visitors don’t care about links but Search Engines do, and they love them.

For most websites, search engines are the primary source of traffic, and therefore the importance of good search engine ranking is vital to your website’s survival. I know it’s really hard to start a new website and quickly gain links, because naturally links are built so slowly and it takes years and tons of good content to start building up properly. That’s where Website Directories come so handy because they can allow you to quickly gain some massive amounts of backlinks which will quickly boost up your search engine friendliness – it will make search engine bots come more often to your website and index fresh information instead once a month or even less often; it will increase your ranking so you can actually rank for some targeted keywords for the services/products that your website is providing. Those things are extremely important as they make your website useful not just internet business card that nobody knows if they don’t know you previously....+|+

You might wonder why directory backlinks are so important. This is because of two primary reasons.

The first reason why directory links are so valuable is that they perform quite better than link exchange. In link exchange you are required to post a reciprocal link, a link back to your link exchange partner, and this is not really good for rankings because each outgoing link from your website (link from your website to another website) will lower your generated page rank and accordingly your rankings which later on results in lower traffic. Therefore link exchange is not really recommended and should be the last resort.

The thing about directory links is that they are (most of the time) one-way-links aka they will place a link on their website, but you are not required to link them back and therefore you will receive pagerank and you won’t have to lose its benefit by linking back. Also directory links are very valuable because they are topic/theme sensitive and they will be quickly accepted by search engines since they are surrounded by similar theme keywords that you’re targeting. In the same talking, link exchanges with irrelevant website (websites that doesn’t have anything to do with your particular niche) won’t do you any good so you should stay away from that.

The second thing is that you can submit your website to thousands directories for some short period of time, as it takes about 4-5 minutes to submit in each directory, and on the other hand it takes days to negotiate a link exchange with another webmaster. This makes directory submissions the best possible way to increase your websites inbound links for short period of time and start ranking on the search engines, rather than going with the slow link exchange.

In most cases webmasters try to submit their websites on their own, but this is relatively show and extremely boring process. I tried to submit some of my websites and I gave up after submitting to 50-60 web directories. Also we have to note that the average acceptance ratio is about 50% and that makes only 25-30 links. I don’t even want to mention the fact that it took me about 5-6 hours to do that and that’s merely a whole day!

I suppose this is the best place to mention that website directory approval is primarily based on your website quality and the category that you’ve submitted your website in. The quality of your website is a relative thing. You should have some useful content in order to convince directory owners to list you website as useful resource and not just delete or deny your submission request. In most cases even if you have good quality website, but you submit it in the wrong directory, directory owners won’t bother to move it to the correct place and instead they will deny your request. That’s why I usually advice people to check out few categories and choose the most relevant category from all in order to increase their chance for being accepted. If you follow those simple directions you have a good chance to improve your acceptance rate, but generally a new website will get quite low acceptance rate compared to old and content rich site.

Fortunately when I got more experienced I learned about directory submission services, and that made my day. I was finally able to get my entire website submitted for some small price, but you have to be very careful which service you are choosing. There are generally two types of directory submission services and they differ quite a lot in quality and also in price.

The worst/cheapest way is to use automated directory submission software. This software usually costs about $20-$30, but is not really efficient and in most cases can place your website in the wrong category (since the computer is choosing instead of real human that can think and choose what’s appropriate) and this will decrease your approval rates to quite low number.

The second way is by hiring someone to do the submission for you. In such cases you don’t really need engineer or professor for that particular task and therefore you can get some cheap labor to do it for you. I’m not saying to hire some Mexicans, but that’s still an option. The best possible way is to outsource/hire someone from a third world country to do it for you. I know (I work with) Indians and Chinese, and for some really funny small amount they can do the whole thing for you. I’m not going to hide the truth from you, but for a price around $100 you can get your website submitted to 1,000 directories and that’s called cheap! The thing about it is that the time one has to spend in order to submit to 1000 directories is about 4-5 minutes per directory and this goes down to 4000-5000 minutes and when you get the 8 hour per day it ends up to 8 to 10 business days full time work. I can tell you right now that I won’t sit in front of my computer for 10 days in order to submit one website when I can pay $100 and get the whole thing done in no time.

If you’re interested in getting someone to do it for you, you can drop me a line and I’ll give you send you some contacts with people that I worked with. Send me email at venetsian[at]venetsian.com , but make sure you replace the [at] to @ sign because some people try to send it like that and the email bounces ..
